There isn't any hope in the fantasy charts for another 10 days to two weeks. :( In the meantime this is an interesting blog post about the Ridiculously Resilient Ridge dominating the current weather pattern. http://www.weatherwest.com/archives/1085

Good riding in town this Junuary :?: Their are some interesting models showing persistent jet-stream troughs linked to global-warming, which seems to be in full effect. Hopefully the next persistent trough will bring some record breaking February pow http://e360.yale.edu/feature/linking_weird_weather_to_rapid_warming_of_the_arctic/2501/

1-31-14 First flakes in 39 daze fell yesterday late afternoon....not quite measureable but encouraging. Count them as they fall during this cycle.......this is the last day of JUNEuary and looking forward to some fresh snow in February....The pattern looks unsettled for a good few days out.....Ski ya on the hill....Winds not a factor out of the South, SW and West.

2-1-14 Happy February, New snow after 39 daze of dry, 4" at 9500', 8" at 10800'...undisturbed settled base 32" at Midway....its skiing very nicely, open to top. Looking like an unsettled pattern with lite snow coming throughout the week ahead....Keep an eye on this next weekend.

2-4-14 snow fall totals reported by ASB are 6" in the last 24hrs....it snowed light to moderately all day yesterday starting at 8:30 am......very lite density snowfall and very little wind. Interval readings were 8 Inches by 4 pm but settled to 6 for the 24 hr reading....The skier compaction and grooming magic opened up more terrain on the ridge side yesterday. I took a little tour on the Humphreys trail and was pleasantly surprised with coverage. Still very thin snowpack out there with logstilcles and hazards looming just below the white blanket.......stay tuned for details on upcoming weekend storm modes seem to be backing off a bit. We will count them as they fall one inch at a time.....Deep Tuesday awaits.

There is new snow on the ground... The Agassiz Peak station measured westerly and southwesterly winds at speeds that are very conducive for saltation of snow and building of wind slabs... so if you are heading out into the Kachina Peaks Wilderness, watch for wind slabs - especially on NE to E slopes.

Might not have been deep, but still was a great day. Even poked around in some trees, still super thin but had fun.

And so after a brief respite the ride of high pressure returns. For how long is the question. For those giving up on this winter here's another positive ENSO outlook for next winter. http://meteora.ucsd.edu/~pierce/elnino/ ... cLdEx.dpuf

A major EL Nino would be a most welcome drought buster.

Kaptain, any chance you could get whoever is in charge of the website to update the snow totals page with this year's info? Still has last year's numbers here:

2-14-14 Happy V- Day......"Sprinter" or "Wring" in full swing with above normal record setting temps and shrinking snowpack......corn skiing in the afternoon in places....Don't be fooled by the front view of peaks from town..still plenty of good skiing on the machine made snowpack. Get it while you can......perhaps some moisture in the future in the 7 day forecast. You never know whats gonna happen till it does.

March "in like a lion out like a lamb" 3-4-14 a significant system did make into the northland with very high snow levels at 8500 to 9000 starting on Friday into Sunday 3-2-14, finally blanketing the peaks with 22 inches at the 10800' level. Very dense snow with lots of SWE providing good epoxy base material for the rest of the month. The sun is getting higher in the sky but great powder shots are still available. Reports from the backcountry were quite favorable with ratings of 17/20 to 19/20.......its gonna go quick and its still a thin snowpack but ski penetration is minimal and north facing slopes still soft. Hopefully March bring more abundant moisture to the West.

Lift Ticket specials and all chairs turning till 5:00 tonite....ski ya there.

Carpe Ski Em......Spring is approaching rapidly get it while you can. 38" showing at the Midway stake......very unusual winter but then again what is usual?
