I'm not sure if they ever did but Alta and Targhee used to offer one ride tickets. 49 bucks to ride up once in the morning is a little ridiculous.

Slide show of Peaks BC skiing.

I put together a little slide show of pictures I took over the last few years. Check it out. A couple of ideas to throw out. 1. A general discussion spot on this forum, a place to share stoke like these vids and pictures. 2. One ride tickets at the bowl. A lot of people would throw 10 bucks at Snowb...

Re: A few things to look at

Nice work JP. The vid is great, an awesome reminder of why I love skiing here so much. It sure isn't Jackson Hole or the Wasatch but in some ways thank God it's not. I love this place! :D

Re: Yesterdays tour, Heck Yeah slide.

It was hard to see the slide until we got up close but it was in Heck Yeah proper. The crown was a little smoothed over but very clear once below it. I believe thats south/east facing and it usually gets the brunt of the load. It was polished over enough we concluded it ran the night before, I had p...

Yesterdays tour, Heck Yeah slide.

A few of us went out touring yesterday in the alpine. Heck Yeah went pretty big the night before leaving a large deposition pile, not a slide anyone would want to be in. We dug a pit on a East facing aspect around 11,700ish maybe higher and found nice stability there. That rain crust layer was burie...

Re: More snow on the way!

I don't want to jinx us but I'm getting stoked on this one. There is a pretty good base in places and now we are looking at a pretty cold storm coming our way, things might be looking good this week! See ya out there.

Beautiful pictures! I'm getting stoked to get out this weekend after the storm, hopefully the winds don't reek to much havoc.

Re: Avy Control Report

Coverage sure is good up there. You weren't kidding about those trees, I steered clear of all rimed up trees as the sun was heating them up and dropping bombs. The touring should be good all week I imagine and I think there is some more snow headed our way! Not having the Agassiz chair today made it...

SWEET! Great news. I think it's killer that Agassiz will remain closed,, gives locals a chance to get away from the crowds and go skin, bummer for the Pheonix crowd. :D

Re: Snowbowl Road will be closed on 12-23-10

Ugh. I had a great time cranking tunes and organizing my gear tonight only to get bummed out again. I'm not giving you a hard time BJ, I know you guys have a ski mountain to run but it's unfortunate that there really is only one access point and it is dictated by a ski area and it's need to be funct...

Re: 12-18-10 Update

In my experiences skiing here the last 9 years the pack has always bridged over but even so this egg shell can crack with enough load. In 2005 things didn't start sliding from a deep buried bed surface until we saw over 420 inches or so, the base was well over 150 inches at the Bowl at that time. Th...

Re: Terrain Management discussion-wind loading

Yeah, You need to watch the wind in any pack it's just kind of cool how the peaks have there own personality that requires an almost completely different pair of eyes and bag of experience then other places I have been. It reminds me of Doug Coombs in the movie Steep talking about mountains being li...

Re: Terrain Management discussion-wind loading

Sorry Maadjurger, I didn't think you were insinuating Andrew wasn't competent but Waterman's post didn't sound like it gave him enough credit. It's a little internet miscommunication is all. Maybe this board needs a General Discussion section? I love this stuff but I'm not as good with the Snow Geek...

Re: Terrain Management discussion-wind loading

Andrew McLean is more then competent, he is one of the very best in the world at bc travel. The rippley snow thing? I'm not sure why or even how but I often see this when there are very big wind loaded hard slabs just sitting around waiting for a trigger. The kind you can stand on as if it's hard pa...
