Good news for people who like bad snow

Took a trip up Humphrey's yesterday (Sunday 12/28/14). Didn't find much snow but it was a nice hike anyway. We met Michael (hello Mike, if you're reading this) on our way to the summit. I relied mostly on information from the Forest Service about conditions, which proved to be a bad idea. We started...

Re: Fatal slide in Jackson today

I guess you just need to take the "moderate" rating with a grain of salt... Hopefully people don't get the idea that moderate = safe. The advisory even mentions, "moderate hazard is not a green light. While the likelihood of triggering these slides is decreasing, the consequences rema...

Re: Fatal slide in Jackson today

I was just in Jackson yesterday. I grew up there, and one of my friends was roommates with the man who died. First of all, I hope the best for his family; what a terrible tragedy to suffer, especially during the holidays. Second of all, the ABC news report is particularly insufferable to read (what ...

Re: Inner Basin camping

I've yet to get a reply from the FS... it seems no one there knows what the boundaries of the inner basin are exactly.

Inner Basin camping

Hello all, I'm trying to find out if it's OK to camp in the Inner Basin during the winter. I've got half the Flagstaff Ranger District scratching their heads about it while they wait for their "wilderness guy" to get back in a few days (from the wilderness, I presume). While I trust that e...

Touring buddy - Feb 16, 17 or 18

I'm looking for a backcountry buddy (or two) to do some touring this weekend. I'm free Saturday, Sunday and Monday so I can do any (or all) of those days. I'm fairly new to AZ so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the San Fran Peaks. I'm Avy 1 certified and have a beacon, probe, shovel and whatnot, I just n...

New to AZ, need snow...

Hey everyone, I'm stoked to have found a way to connect with other backcountry skiers/boarders in Arizona. By some strange twist of fate I moved to Phoenix in April from Jackson Hole, where I was born and raised. I love backcountry skiing and can't wait to check out what Arizona has to offer, but un...
