Re: Inner Basin and Abineau!

Thanks for the stoke.. I've been wondering how the north side looked. My brother and i are going to get back there in a few weeks, not sure if it will be as good then. Hope we get a fresh coating between now and then.

Re: Flagstaff Winter Adventure Guidebook

One more thing.......Why? ASk yourself this and be real. What is the point? Why do you feel compelled to sell out everything so? Isn't posting videos on the net a form of selling out? If you get enough hits they may even pay you..The fact is most people look at backcountry travel as absurdly danger...

Re: Winter Weather for 2013-2014

Good riding in town this Junuary :?: Their are some interesting models showing persistent jet-stream troughs linked to global-warming, which seems to be in full effect. Hopefully the next persistent trough will bring some record breaking February pow http://e360.yale.edu/feature/linking_weird_weathe...

Re: Setting a skin track on Southside

Ya an established track really makes things easy, i'll have to check this out. Skinning the trees below temptations/dutch-mans can be a fairly direct way to access the ridge or trees above booboo.

Re: Uphill traffic at Snowbowl.

The last comment I heard before the recent post by Splity was that uphill traffic must use the Humphreys trail :?: . A route south of sunset sounds amenable to me. Funny how the big or small picture changes when self interests are served. The message board is great unless you drove up and find out t...

Re: Uphill traffic at Snowbowl.

I hope Vermont gets hit around Christmas, heading over there to meet up with my brother for some BC boarding. I've heard 30 feels like 0 here, so bringing every thread. Back to the uphill traffic quandry. The special use area sites in the middle of our wilderness, (and i love the fact that there are...

Re: Uphill traffic at Snowbowl.

Fortunately there are a few quality low altitude ski lines to be had, no where near Snowbowl. I think a discussion among all concerned parties would be great, the early season skiing up at bowl can be excellent and safe (in-bounds). Frankly I don't want to rub any of the ski patrol the wrong way, as...

Re: new trails being cut

Peabody coal is not tribally owned, and many Hopi and Navajo people are outraged about the lopsided deal that the coal company got for pristine water from the aquifer. Native people in this country have a long and sad history with the U.S. gov and business interests colluding for the benefit of a fe...

Re: new trails being cut

Civility huh? I know cursing really upsets people some times. I would say flippant discussion about kachinas and spraying effluent in the wilderness is more offensive.

Re: new trails being cut

I doubt wether most skiers give a flying fuck wether the mountain is supplied with snow by mother nature or treated effluent. But if you think that your drinking treated effluent right now your a fucking idiot or you work a wildcat treatment plant. The argument that we just can never know is equally...

Re: There's still snow

I hiked Abineau on 5/21 and still had great snow, about 8-10" of fresh it looked like from just poking around with my pole (bring skin wax, I didn't ). It started to really soften up around 10:00 and get sticky. I dropped the trees facing directly north into Abineau which had great covera...

Getting stoked on many of these threads, I've been getting out by myself for most of the year and am looking to do some early season tours on west, and south faces mostly. I've been boarding for twenty years and backcountry for three, mostly on the Peaks. I have the essentials and know how to use th...

Re: Long-term outlook?

http://www.mpcer.nau.edu/files/flagstaff_climate_history.pdf Interesting paper, the general trend is dryer and warmer, but anomalies like last year are always possible. Northern AZ, on many of the maps sited seems to be on the cusp of the southern predictions. We always seem to be a little chaotic ...
