Re: March like a lion

Most of Core Ridge went with this last system as well. In fact, it looked like the north facing side of Rustler slid and connected all the way around to Core ridge. Beyond the first initial Core Peak zone it was hard to tell if it connected to all of the slides further east along CR since the wind h...

Re: Snowslide and Doyle Fracture line profile

Cool!

I know the winds have probably made it hard to see the fracture lines clearly but how deep do you think the original crown was?

We spotted it from Core ridge last week and thought it looked somewhere in the ball park of around 6 feet but it was hard to say from where we saw it.

Re: Alison Clay Avalanche - Saturday Jan 14th

Two days ago a group and I skied Allison's. There wasn't any visual evidence of a slide but I felt it underneath the new snow for 3 or 4 turns or so where pitch of the bowl decreases just before the avalanche path. It wasn't very much, I can't imagine that the slide was very large. I'm guessing it w...

It could have been graupel, we didn't have a confident conclusion on the positive bed surface layer.

Re: Uphill route on Southside

Nice work! Thanks for posting here about it. I don't skin up for inbounds laps much but if I did I would much prefer to be on a skin track like this regardless if Snowbowl is open or closed for uphill traffic.

Re: New Owner?

I have pics of the new lift line but I can't figure out how to load them onto this forum. I'm so stoked on all of the improvements. It's about time, unless there was powder to ski I hardly wanted to ski here any longer. The idea of 15 to 20 minute rides for 2 minutes of skiing just isn't very appeal...

Well I can't figure out how to actually get the vid up on this forum, sorry.

And.....what happened to ElNino? I'm kind of feeling a little ripped off and frustrated right now. :(

Coulior skiing with Ken

It's been one heck of a week for ski touring. Ken and I skied some lines that haven't been hit for 5 or 10 years, one even longer if ever.

So the Durango newspaper just released the sale of DMR has been finalized and it also lists Snowbowl as one of their resorts. Hopefully this means the area is finally switching hands. http://www.durangomountainresort.com/dmr/assets/File/Coleman%27s%20Purchase%20of%20Purgatory%20Finalized.pdf What ch...

Nice pics! Good work on keeping at it as well. I have to admit, after skiing in the rain last Wednesday or what ever day that was I lost my drive.

Re: Temptation & Fremont, Jan. 17, 18

The conditions you are reporting sound like what we have been experiencing. I had more whumphing (I have no idea how to spell that) out on Soft Core Ridge this past Monday. One that had me super gripped again. Everything that is collapsing on me is starting in and around what most people would call ...

Re: Mid January Obs

A few of us went on a long tour yesterday. We found lots of different conditions out there. We skied below Core Ridge before skinning back up to the low saddle. The trees below the Cirque is an area that gets very cold and develops mucho faceted snow. We had a shit ton of whumpfing going on during o...

Good point. I honestly don't even remember writing those posts , ugh.....too many beers that day, and your point is valid and I respect that. I have tried to leave things vague and non descriptive with my vids, I think it's a cool thing that in learning about our backcountry it takes time and lots o...

Re: Flagstaff Winter Adventure Guidebook

Well I guess I can warm up to the idea if you must but I hope you give respects to those that were out there doing things before us. Telling tales of the old school and stories involving folks like Ken, Dirker, Beamer, Layback, BJ, etc. should be included. Make it interesting and give the reader som...
